To meet the Paris Agreement’s target of limiting global temperature rise to 1.5°C, climate action planning needs to deliver new levels of ambition, driving rapid and systemic change on the ground. Cities urgently need to develop local climate action plans to achieve emissions neutrality and climate resilience by 2050. The methodology of climate action planning involves setting a city vision and commitment, establishing a baseline, prioritizing actions, clarifying targets, and aligning with national policies and international frameworks. Additionally, equitable distribution and engaging with relevant political and civil partners are essential components of a successful climate action plan. While each city is likely to take a different approach, ambition, acceleration and delivery form the core of the climate action planning process.
