The UNEA-7 Cities and Regions Summit will take place in the lead-up to the seventh session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-7) on 5 December 2025 from 09:30 to 18:00 EAT, at UNEP Headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya. Recurring since UNEA-4 in 2019, the Summit brings together mayors, governors, and other representatives from cities and regions worldwide to exchange experiences, strengthen inter-city and multilevel cooperation, and relay the voices of the local and regional governments to the Member States participating in the UNEA-7.
The Summit will focus on how cities and regions address environmental challenges and support building a more resilient planet through integrated and synergistic approaches. It will showcase examples of local and regional governments working across different sectors to cut emissions, protect nature, and reduce pollution, while supporting vulnerable communities and fostering sustainable growth. The Summit will also show how national governments and international agreements can support local action.
There will be two main sessions during the Summit:
(1) Effective environmental governance that empowers local and regional governments to achieve the Multilateral Environmental Agreements in integrated, multi-level, and synergistic approaches;
(2) Aligning and accelerating finance for locally integrated sustainable solutions.
The Summit will be streamed live on YouTube and Zoom. If you want to ask questions during the event, please join via Zoom (register here). Here is the YouTube streaming link.
